Several world-class players have played for Arsenal over the years.

The Gunners are among the most successful teams in the history of English football, and that wouldn’t have been possible without great players on the pitch.

The likes of Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp spring to mind when you’re talking about Arsenal, but the North Londoners have had amazing defenders play for them as well.

Tony Adams is arguably the best ever, but one former Gunners defender has claimed that he was even better than Mr Arsenal.

Sol Campbell says he was better than Tony Adams and John Terry

Sol Campbell has been very active over the last few weeks.

The Englishman is a hero to Gooners for leaving Tottenham and joining the Gunners over two decades ago. He is loved and adored by the fans.

Campbell even aimed a dig at Tottenham recently, just before the North London Derby, and that was hilarious to see.

On Monday, Rio Ferdinand released a video on his YouTube channel, where he had a good chat with Campbell about the past and present.

The Manchester United legend threw a few great defenders’ names in front of him and asked if he was better than them in his prime.

When John Terry and Nemanja Vidic’s names were brought up, Campbell quickly replied: “I’m better.”

When Adams was mentioned, Campbell said: “As a defender, if I’m in the mood and everything is good, I’m better!”

Sol Campbell’s record at Arsenal

Campbell joined Arsenal on a free transfer from Tottenham in the summer of 2001.

The Englishman played 211 games for the Gunners and helped them win two Premier League titles, four FA Cups and a Community Shield in five years.

Campbell was integral alongside Kolo Toure during Arsenal’s Invincibles season. The Gunners had the best defence in the Premier League that campaign, conceding just 26 goals in 38 games.

In 2006, Campbell asked Arsenal to release him so that he could explore other opportunities, and Arsene Wenger obliged.

Later, in 2010, Campbell rejoined the club on a six-month deal. He was released at the end of that contract then as well.
