If Dennis Bergkamp is speaking, then Arsenal fans will be listening, even if it does mean him praising a former Tottenham star.

Bergkamp is seen by many as the best forward to ever play for Arsenal, even among the likes of Thierry Henry and Ian Wright.

The Dutchman was a cornerstone of the great Arsenal side under Arsene Wenger and on the international stage, is remembered for some of the greatest goals we’ve seen – see Netherlands v Argentina in 1998.

Still, while he had some brilliant strike partners in his day, Bergkamp has admitted that it’s an ex-Spurs forward who is among those he’d love to have played with.

Dennis Bergkamp partnered some great strikers at Arsenal and internationally.

Players like Ian Wright, Thierry Henry, Nicolas Anelka, Patrick Kluivert and Ruud van Nistelrooy all played with the Dutchman.

However, when asked on The Overlap who he’d have loved to play with, Bergkamp actually mentioned Harry Kane among his top three.

“At the moment, the ideal strikers – how we knew them like Marco van Basten – it’s Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski,” Bergkamp said.

“Lewandowski is at an age now where things don’t always come as smoothly, but those two have been phenomenal. And Karim Benzema – I used to teach young strikers a lot using his movement. It was unbelievable.

“I tried to put that into the heads of the strikers I worked with in the youth teams as well because his runs were amazing.”

Dennis Bergkamp and Harry Kane would have been unstoppable

We can talk about Harry Kane and praise him, despite him being very much a Tottenham legend.

The England captain is too good to dismiss as one of the best strikers to ever play in the Premier League and Bergkamp is rightly commending him here.

As a duo, they would have been quite the partnership.

Between them, they scored 300 Premier League goals and contributed a further 162 assists, with Bergkamp the top man here with 94 during his time at Arsenal.

The idea of Bergkamp playing just off of Kane and the pair interchanging as a front two is quite frightening.
