Dennis Bergkamp has named Arsenal star Declan Rice as the best player in the world right now.

The legendary Dutchman is one of the greatest footballers to ever grace the game, and he knows an elite talent when he sees one.

Bergkamp is convinced that Rice is better than anyone else right now, and the Arsenal legend has revealed the reason behind his selection.

Dennis Bergkamp explains why Arsenal star Declan Rice is the best player in the world

Declan Rice has been incredible for Arsenal since he joined the club from West Ham United in 2023.

The England international has barely put a foot wrong in the famous red and white, and he is definitely up there with the most consistent performers in the game.

Bergkamp was an elite player and shared the dressing room with legends like Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Ruud Gullit, among others.

There are very few people on the planet who can judge a footballer better than the Dutchman, and his comments on Rice will delight Arsenal fans.

In an interview on ThreeSixtyTV, Joel Beya asked Bergkamp to name ‘the best player in the world right now’.

He replied: “Again, Arsenal are leading in the Champions League, so I want to pick a player… I think it’s Rice, it’s Declan.

“For me, he is of great importance in that team. I would pick him.”

If Bergkamp’s claim is echoed by everyone else, Rice could become the first player in Arsenal history to win the Ballon d’Or. That, however, is easier said than done.

What Declan Rice needs to do to win the Ballon d’Or

Rice’s performances are definitely among the best in the world, but that alone will not help him win the Ballon d’Or.

To lift that prestigious award and follow in the footsteps of people like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, the Arsenal number 41 will have to win trophies.

If Rice helps the Gunners win the quadruple this season and also plays a part in England going to the latter stages of the World Cup, we think he will become the favourite to win the Ballon d’Or.

However, the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, who have scored many more goals than Rice, will have an eye on that award as well.
