TalkSport pundit Simon Jordan has lashed out at Arsenal star Ainsley Maitland-Niles following his outburst on Instagram yesterday.
The versatile Englishman was desperate to leave Arsenal with Everton reportedly keen. However, the Gunners turned down the Toffees’ offer and that infuriated Maitland-Niles, who tried to force his way out of the club.
He wrote on Instagram: “All I wanna do is go where I’m wanted and where I’m gonna play”. That didn’t go down well with many people, including Jordan, who has had a real go at the Englishman.
Simon Jordan: Maitland-Niles should respect Arsenal
He said on TalkSport: “You’re a footballer and it’s not your job to go out there and criticise the club you’re currently playing for. That puts you in a position where you’re at odds with the club. If it was me, I would fine him two weeks’ wages and then [telling him]: ‘you’re definitely staying’.
“It’s bringing the club into disrepute. The club is in a very fractious position right now with players left right and centre underperforming and the manager is under pressure. The last thing you need to see is a player coming out and making observations that he’s not loved at the club.
“I would make him stay unless there’s a reason to loan him or transferring him out. It would certainly not be to Everton. He’s under contract and he does as he’s told. In this instance, a player cannot make an observation in this way to draw the focus back to the club about how a player is looked after.
“I’d say do as you’re told young man, respect the environment you’re in.”

Maitland-Niles has changed his mind
The Athletic and a bunch of other outlets in England revealed that Maitland-Niles will be staying at Arsenal this season.
The Englishman reportedly held clear the air talks with Mikel Arteta and Edu behind the scenes. Maitland-Niles has been assured that he will play a part for Arsenal this season, and that has convinced him to stay.

It will be interesting to see where Maitland-Niles ends up playing. The right-back slot is likely to be filled by Takehiro Tomiyasu now, while we have plenty of options in the middle of our park. That makes it difficult for him, but maybe Arteta has a surprise for all of us. Only time will tell.
