Mikel Arteta has been handed a new contract by Arsenal.

Arsenal have now reached an agreement with Mikel Arteta.

Arteta has penned a new three-year deal at the Emirates Stadium. There was gradually mounting pressure for his future to be resolved, as prior to this development he only had 12-months remaining on his existing deal.

However, Arsenal were always committed to keeping Arteta at the club. An informal understanding that the Spaniard would extend his stay had been in place for some time.

Fans of the North London outfit will take comfort from the fact that it is now official, though, and that Arteta and sporting director Edu Gaspar are set to continue working together.

Edu Gaspar sends message to Mikel Arteta after Arsenal contract deal

Following the announcement of Arteta’s new contract, Edu took to Instagram to celebrate the deal.

The Brazilian posted a picture of himself and the club’s executive vice-chair Tim Lewis sat on either side of Arteta, who has his new contract before him.

Edu included the messaged: “Today is a very special day !!!”

Why Mikel Arteta is special to Arsenal

Arteta certainly has built something special at Arsenal since his appointment in December 2019. When he arrived at the club, things were, frankly, a mess. Out of the Champions League and with a bloated, flawed squad, the incoming coach faced a huge challenge in making the Gunners competitive again.

The road of progress has not always run smoothly. There were times when the manager came under real pressure. Edu has explained why Arsenal didn’t sack Arteta in the past, and the club will now be relieved that they stuck by him through the tough times.

The 42-year-old has built a young, talented, and hungry squad, and has made Arsenal contenders again. On top of that, he has healed the rift between the club and its fanbase.

There is just one hurdle left to overcome. Arteta has promised Arsenal fans that major trophies are coming. Now is the time to deliver, and he has just been given the time to do exactly that.
