Emirates Stadium announcer did something very ‘weird’ vs Nottingham Forest – Arsenal fans hate it

Arsenal got back to Premier League action with a comfortable 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The Gunners needed this victory, having been in poor form prior to the international break. Mikel Arteta’s side can scarcely afford to put another foot wrong, as they now face the challenge of chasing down league leaders Liverpool.

Arsenal fans were wowed by Bukayo Saka’s opening goal, before Thomas Partey sealed the victory with a stunning strike of his own. Ethan Nwaneri was able to lift the mood further, as he netted his first Premier League goal late on.

Nwaneri became Arsenal’s youngest Premier League goalscorer since Cesc Fabregas with this effort, and there is a huge degree of excitement about the 17-year-old midfielder amongst the Emirates Stadium faithful.

Emirates Stadium announcer launched Arsenal player chants vs Nottingham Forest

As each goal went in against Nottingham Forest, the Emirates Stadium announcer called out the name of each scorer, as per usual.

However, the announcer then introduced a new element to that standard routine for this fixture, as they began to sing popular fan chants associated with each scorer. This was done in a bid to further liven up the crowd, who were expected to sing along.

It would appear that this is a new initiative that has been introduced for home games in order to improve the atmosphere inside the Emirates Stadium.

It is unclear if Arteta has had any say in this, but if the measure proves effective then the Spanish coach will surely approve.

The atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium has been criticised recently, and it would appear that the club are seeking to be proactive in an attempt to raise the volume levels in the ground.

Arsenal fans react to new Emirates Stadium goal announcements

This measure has not been welcomed by all Arsenal fans on X, though, who have accused the stadium announcer’s antics of being inorganic and forced.

In the wake of this win over Nottingham Forest, there was plenty of discussion about the issue.

One fan said: “Gonna take time to get used to. Felt weird in the stadium tbh.”

Another stated: “It’s cringe. I was there. Don’t like it.”

One added: “Being there, actually hated it. Not better than prior goal announcements.”

Another supporter insisted: “Sounded nice, but wasn’t a fan of getting chants started by the announcer. Very tinpot. Chants should start organically not egged by the announcer IMO.”

One supporter deemed the development: “Naff.”
