Arsenal and Manchester City locked horns over the weekend in the latest clash between two of the Premier League’s biggest modern rivals.
It wasn’t the most thrilling affair at the Emirates as Pep Guardiola’s side sat back and defended and Arsenal struggled to break them down.
A late goal from Gabriel Martinelli rescued a point for the Gunners, but this wasn’t a classic fixture.
Speaking to TalkSPORT, Emmanuel Petit has been building his combined XI of City and Arsenal players, and he’s made an interesting claim about one position in particular.
Indeed, Petit says he’d pick Ben White in the right-back position if he was building a combined XI of Arsenal and City players.

Emmanuel Petit picks Ben White in his combined City/Arsenal XI
Petit was asked to build a combined XI of City and Arsenal players.
As you can imagine, as a former Arsenal player, was rather biased towards the Gunners here.
Petit picked a team that was largely built around Arsenal players, and, in the right-back slot, he picked Ben White.
White is a talented player, but, these days, he isn’t one of the first names on the teamsheet at the Emirates.
White has been injured lately, but when he’s fit, he often starts on the bench behind Jurrien Timber these days.
Arsenal’s right-back depth compared to Man City
Petit says he’d start White at right-back in this combined XI, but, interestingly, there’s an argument to make that Arsenal’s right-back depth is light years ahead of Man City’s.
Indeed, if there’s one problem area in Pep Guardiola’s side, it’s right-back.
| Arsenal’s right-back options | Man City’s right-back options |
| Ben White | Matheus Nunes |
| Jurrien Timber | Rico Lewis |
| Cristhian Mosquera | John Stones |
Petit says he’d have White over Matheus Nunes, while Timber already starts over White most of the time.
Rico Lewis hasn’t been amazing for City at full-back in recent times, and Cristhian Mosquera has been receiving a lot of praise lately, albeit at centre-back.
Arsenal’s right-back options are incredible right now, and they are much better than City in this area.
