Ethan Nwaneri was a standout for Arsenal in the Gunners’ first test of pre-season.
Arsenal beat AC Milan 1-0 in Singapore to kick off the action in the club’s pre-season tour of Asia.
It was unsurprising to see Bukayo Saka on the scoresheet, but the winger wasn’t the most talked-about figure from the game.
While Gabriel Martinelli collected criticism, others exceeded expectations, as Nwaneri had an inspired performance in his favoured number ten position.

Ethan Nwaneri reacts to Arsenal’s new signings
Nwaneri rarely gets the chance to play in central attacking midfield at Arsenal due to Martin Odegaard’s presence.
Last season, the 18-year-old predominantly featured at right wing, covering for Saka while he recovered from a hamstring tear.
Being the man of the moment, Nwaneri was interviewed post-match by Arsenal’s official website, where he was asked to comment on the club’s new arrivals.
“Yes, I think all the signings we’ve made have been brilliant and sharpening the team and making us even stronger.”
Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubimendi and Kepa Arrizabalaga made their unofficial debuts for Arsenal against Milan, with Noni Madueke waiting at home to get involved.
Nwaneri turned his attention to the England international, who is on an extended holiday, as well as hinting at those also waiting to join the squad.
“We’ve got some more back at home coming, so we’re ready for them to all come and build together.”
Arsenal are set to announce Cristhian Mosquera’s arrival imminently, with Viktor Gyokeres expected to follow.

New signings suit Nwaneri
If you’d asked Arsenal fans what signing they were most looking forward to ahead of the summer transfer window, it would’ve been a striker.
Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Gyokeres, who is soon set to be unveiled as a Gunner to the delight of many.
Nwaneri’s positivity when talking about the new arrivals comes as no surprise, not just in the form of Gyokeres.
Norgaard and Zubimendi offer defensive cover and a vast passing range, which will benefit Nwaneri in the attacking midfield role.
Madueke’s presence eases the need for Arteta to call Nwaneri into action on the flanks, and Gyokeres’ scoring form just makes him the perfect target for the playmakers in the squad.
The season ahead is set to be a huge one for Nwaneri, who, after an inspired breakthrough campaign, is looking to go above and beyond again.
