Arsenal all but handed Liverpool the Premier League title after dropping points to Everton at Goodison Park.

Mikel Arteta watched his side drop points for the fifth time in the Premier League since the start of 2025.

Arsenal drew 1-1 with Everton at Goodison Park, leaving the Gunners 11 points behind league leaders Liverpool with seven games to go.

The talking point of the draw was the controversial penalty Myles Lewis-Skelly conceded, a spot kick Iliman Ndiaye scored to salvage a point.

Arsenal leading the way in unwanted Premier League statistic

Though Arsenal were furious with Darren England’s performance, the Gunners’ biggest concern came away from the match officials.

Dropping points has become the norm for Arsenal in 2025, missing out on a win in 46% of their Premier League fixtures since the turn of the year.

The draw against Everton was perhaps the most poignant, as it marked the seventh occasion in which Arteta’s side have drawn a game that they initially led in.

No side has recorded more draws after going ahead in the Premier League than Arsenal this term, portraying a stark weakness in the Gunners’ in-game management for all to see.

Drawing games has been an issue for the North Londoners throughout the season, as back in December, Arsenal surpassed their draw tally of the entire 2023/24 campaign.

Mikel Arteta must recognise Arsenal’s decline

Arsenal have recorded 11 draws this season, which is the total of the 2022/23 and 2023/24 Premier League calendars combined.

Seeing the Gunners regress after two title-challenging campaigns is a real concern, something Arteta must be looking to address over the summer in pre-season.

Strain on the squad due to Arsenal’s injury record has been a contributing factor to a rather lacklustre season, but it mustn’t be considered the sole reason for missing out on the title.

A flaw in the squad’s in-game management has seen points dropped far too many times, handing Arteta a problem to combat at the soonest convenience.
