Arsene Wenger’s legacy is clear, but for the former Arsenal boss, the future of football is very firmly in his plans.

The 75-year-old enjoyed a 22-year spell with the Gunners, following previous success at Nancy, Monaco and Nagoya Grampus Eight.

In that time, Wenger won three Premier League trophies, seven FA Cups and seven community shields, cementing himself as an Arsenal and Premier League great.

However, since leaving the Emirates Stadium in 2018, the former manager hasn’t stepped back into the dugout with another club.

His focus has been on the future of football and putting his experience into shaping the modern game, with a new role reflecting that once again.

Arsene Wenger’s new job at FIFA revealed

Since leaving Arsenal, Wenger took up a job with FIFA as their Chief of Global Football Development, looking to build the game across the world.

Part of his role so far has been implementing the Talent Development System, which views the best ways to help nurture footballers into the best players they can be.

The latest addition to his responsibilities for the football governing body will now seemingly surround players and their schedules.

FIFA announced in their latest statement that Wenger will be part of a task force looking at player welfare, following growing concerns over fixture schedules, injuries and more.

The statement adds: “The objective of the task force is to examine how suitable and effective safeguards for players can be implemented, also taking into account practical considerations from operational, medical, regulatory and legal perspectives.

“The task force is due to make recommendations informed by the latest scientific research into the topic of players’ physical and mental well-being.”

The long-term impact of that remains to be seen, but it does bring finally FIFA into the conversation surrounding fixture congestion.

Arsene Wenger could help Mikel Arteta with FIFA changes

If the FIFA task force does find that changes are needed, then it may be something that could help plenty of the top managers in the game.

With fixtures piling up and injuries becoming more and more commonplace, the switches recommended may make more of those key players available on a regular basis.

For Mikel Arteta in particular, that could be a huge boost during a period where he is already experiencing that exact pinch.

The Arsenal boss is battling with some big injury issues throughout the squad during a period of important matches.

Fit and healthy players can bring better performances and results for the side, while spectators are given a better quality viewing.

It remains to be seen if any major changes will be put in place, but it could certainly help Arsenal in the long run.
