Arsenal star Ben White has struggled in recent weeks, as he has played whilst carrying an injury in the last two months.

The 25-year-old has seen his form dip this season, but his commitment cannot be understated as it recently emerged that he has been carrying an injury whilst playing.

The lack of other options in the squad has led to this issue. Takehiro Tomiyasu was also injured, Jurrien Timber is unavailable and Cedric Soares is not regarded as someone who is at the required level for Mikel Arteta’s squad.

White has made himself available throughout this time, but there are concerns about his injury, and Arsenal may now need to prioritise a defender in the January transfer window.

Ben White’s injury issue is of concern to Arsenal

Football.London have now reported that White has been carrying a knee injury since Arsenal’s defeat to Newcastle at the start of November.

“White missed the win over Burnley earlier in the season with a muscular injury that appears to still be plaguing him,” the report stated.

“football.london understands it is a knee issue that he has been managing since the defeat to Newcastle, with it worrying enough to see him miss the clash against Burnley.

White has appeared in all but one game across all competitions this season, and Arteta caused frustration amongst the Arsenal fanbase when he substituted him on in a dead-rubber match against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

Tomiyasu is set to feature at the Asia Cup, meaning he will be absent until February. With Oleksandr Zinchenko also struggling for form at left-back, there are no alternative options within the squad in defence, and this is having an impact on the team as a whole.

If Timber and Tomiyasu were both fit, they would likely both be starting right now, and all the options at fullback could be rotated to keep everyone in good fitness and form.

White is now having to play through injury, and is being run into the ground as Arsenal simply do not have anyone else who can start in the Premier League for them.

A signing in the area is a must, and it needs to be a defender who ideally would be able to cover multiple positions. Timber cannot be considered an option for most of this season whilst he recovers from injury, and Tomiyasu has shown that he cannot be relied upon in terms of fitness despite his excellent performances.
