Arsenal have been proactive in tying down their best players to long-term contracts in recent months, and Ben White could now be set to follow the likes of Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Martin Odegaard in signing fresh terms.
White has been terrific since his arrival from Brighton in 2021, and whilst he has plenty of time to run on his current deal, Arsenal are keen to extend his contract already, whilst also giving him a pay rise to reflect his performances.
The 26-year-old is perhaps one of the most underrated players at the club, and his ability to excel as both a centre-back and a right-back has made him particularly useful for Mikel Arteta.
White closes in on new deal
Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that a new deal for the Englishman is expected to be sealed soon, with all parties confident over an agreement.
“Arsenal are more than confident to get new deal done and sealed soon for Ben White. Negotiations are ongoing since August/September, as reported earlier. White, happy at Arsenal as club want his new contract sealed after Odegaard signed last month,” Romano tweeted.
White’s importance
The defender is now a crucial player under Mikel Arteta, in both supporting Bukayo Saka on the right-hand side of the pitch, as well as helping bring the ball out of defence, whilst also remaining defensively strong.
Arteta described White as “consistent” last year, and he rarely ever has a poor game as one of the most reliable players in the squad.
White’s professionalism, which has seen him earn praise from teammates, is reflected in his injury record, with the former Brighton star rarely ever absent.
Although there was no real rush to tie him down, signing him up now in line with his other teammates highlights how well-organised the club are now being when it comes to players running their contracts down, and this will mean that every starter at the club has either joined recently or signed fresh terms within the last year.
