Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Arsenal could be willing to part with Aaron Ramsdale this winter.
Aaron Ramsdale may well be keen to leave Arsenal as soon as possible.
The goalkeeper has lost his regular starting berth at the Emirates Stadium, with summer arrival David Raya now clearly Mikel Arteta’s preferred first choice between the sticks.
Ramsdale likely feels hard done by to have lost his No. 1 spot. He has admitted that the decision hurt him, and Arteta has also come in for criticism for his treatment of the England international.
Last season, Ramsdale was a key figure for the Gunners, and garnered plenty of plaudits for his performances. Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson, speaking on the Footballers’ Football Podcast, even described Ramsdale as an “unbelievable” goalkeeper.
The 25-year-old shot-stopper is certainly good enough to be the first choice for the majority of Premier League clubs. At this stage in his career, he also needs to be playing regularly, certainly if he is to stand any chance of going to EURO 2024 as part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad this summer.
As such, a departure from Arsenal is likely in Ramsdale’s best interests at this time.

Should Arsenal let Aaron Ramsdale go?
That being said, Arteta has good reason to want to cling onto the player, until the end of the current campaign at least. For a start, Ramsdale represents a high level back up option, should Raya be sidelined for any reason.
On top of that, Raya has not been entirely convincing since coming into the side. There is still a chance that Arteta could reinstate Ramsdale if he loses patience with the Spaniard.
Of course, if Ramsdale were to leave this winter, he would also need replacing. Current third choice ‘keeper Karl Hein is not yet ready to step up into Ramsdale’s place in the pecking order, and with the Gunners needing to invest in other areas of the squad this January, replacing Ramsdale is an expense they could very much do without.
That being said, if the right offer comes in, Fabrizio Romano believes that Ramsdale could still be prised away from the Emirates Stadium. Writing in his Daily Briefing, the reporter said, “there have been further reports about Aaron Ramsdale and a possible departure if a big offer comes in. It’s certainly the case that a big offer can always persuade clubs to sell players, especially if they’re not starters like Ramsdale. But as of now, there is no big proposal on the table, the situation is still quiet. In case they will receive a big proposal, the situation could change.”
Clearly, as things stand, Ramsdale is not expected to depart. However, he would be a tempting proposition to plenty of clubs who will all be aware of his unsettled status at Arsenal. These circumstances could prompt some suitors to soon come forward.
