Raheem Sterling’s loan spell at Arsenal has been a disaster.
The Gunners have had a lot of problems this season. Several key Arsenal players have suffered injuries, and some big refereeing decisions have gone against them as well.
Mikel Arteta needed the more established players in his side to step up during these struggles, and Sterling is arguably the most experienced of the lot.
However, the Englishman has looked nothing like his old self in the famous red and white, and that is really disappointing.
Arsenal’s internal feeling about Raheem Sterling
Arsenal signed Sterling on a season-long loan deal on transfer deadline day last summer.
The Gunners were in the market for a new wide player all window, but they just couldn’t land their main target, who was Athletic Bilbao and Spain star Nico Williams.
An opportunity presented itself to sign Sterling late in the window, and Edu and Arteta decided to take it.
Sterling was never going to be a regular starter at Arsenal – everybody knew that when he was brought in on deadline day.
But, a lot more was expected of the Chelsea loanee than he has produced, and that has been disappointing to see.
There are just a few months left in the season, and Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Arsenal have already decided that they will not extend Sterling’s loan deal.
The Gunners, however, want him to step up and deliver before he returns to Chelsea.
Romano said in his GiveMeSport newsletter: “[Arsenal are] Expecting the player to deliver more for the final months of the season, then the expectation is for Sterling to return to Chelsea and not staying at Arsenal next season.
“That’s the clear feeling internally.”

Arsenal already know the best option to replace Raheem Sterling
Arsenal are expected to make a few big moves in the summer.
All eyes will be on a new striker, while Martin Zubimendi is expected to arrive at Arsenal as well. Those two positions are key, but a new winger is a necessity too.
After Sterling’s disastrous spell, Arsenal need to land their top target, and there isn’t a better option available on the market than Williams.
Reports have claimed that Williams is ready to join Arsenal, and his speed, explosiveness and ability to play on either wing make him the perfect player for the Gunners.
If Arsenal can land Williams, Zubimendi and someone like Alexander Isak before the start of next season, they will become the favourites to win the title.
