The summer transfer window is still a few months away, but there’s already some good news coming Arsenal’s way.

The North Londoners did nothing in the winter transfer window. Mikel Arteta made a public plea for a new attacker, but the board did not deliver.

Arsenal fans have been worried that Arteta will walk away if he continues to be let down by the board, but there’s a positive update coming out from Spain now.

It looks like the decision-makers at Arsenal are ready to back Arteta big-time.

Nico Williams wants to join Arsenal after the Gunners ‘shock’ Barcelona

Nico Williams has been a target for Arsenal for a long time.

The Spain international is among the most exciting wide players to watch in world football. He possesses blistering pace, exceptional skills on the ball and has the ability to torment any full-back.

Arsenal tried to sign Williams in the summer of 2024, but the attacker wasn’t ready to leave his beloved Athletic Bilbao then.

Now, he has changed his stance, and Carpetas Blaugranas have claimed that he is set to join Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

The report claims that the Gunners have decided to trigger his €58 million (£48m) release clause, which means there’s no need for negotiations with Athletic Club.

It has been revealed that this move from Arsenal has come as a ‘shock’ to Barcelona, who were also dreaming of signing Williams.

The player admires the Catalans too, but after analysing his options, the report claims that Williams ‘has decided to accept the challenge of playing under the orders of Mikel Arteta‘ at Arsenal.

Nico Williams’ stats in 2024/25 are disappointing

Williams was absolutely brilliant for club and country last season, so much so that he was hailed as ‘one of the best wingers in international football’ by Transfermarkt’s Ivan Turmo.

The Spaniard scored eight goals and provided 19 assists for Athletic Bilbao in all competitions. He had a stunning Euro 2024 campaign with Spain too, for whom he scored in the final to help them lift the title.

However, Williams has had a poor campaign this time around.

Nine direct goal contributions in 30 appearances is a really disappointing return, but that doesn’t make Williams a bad player by any means.

The Spain star is still only 22, and if he joins a bigger club like Arsenal, his numbers will surely improve.

The summer window does not open for a few more months, so anything can still happen, But, we really hope Arsenal can get this deal over the line.
