Mesut Ozil left Arsenal in controversial fashion in 2021, but the creative midfielder enjoyed a hugely successful career while he was at the club.

Scoring 44 goals and registering 71 assists across all competitions for the Gunners in his seven-and-a-half-year spell in North London, the playmaker was exquisite at times in a red-and-white shirt.

Granit Xhaka cited Ozil as the best player he’s played with, while many more were startled by the player’s technical quality and ability to play defence-splitting passes.

Finishing his career with a World Cup winner’s medal, as well as four FA Cups and a La Liga triumph, the German enjoyed an incredibly illustrious 17-year stretch at the top of the game.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain revealed what Mesut Ozil used to do every day at Arsenal

Ozil joined Arsenal for a record transfer fee in the summer of 2013.

Arriving on deadline day for £42.5 million from Real Madrid, the number ten hit the ground running in his first season in N5, scoring seven goals and providing 12 assists in all competitions.

He then went away with the German national team and claimed the greatest accolade of them all, winning the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Speaking in an interview for Soccer AM back in 2017, Ozil’s Arsenal teammate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain revealed that the World Cup winner would speak about his triumph in the international tournament on a daily basis.

Asked about returning to the club after winning the competition, Per Mertesacker said in the interview: “When England got knocked out, the second choice for everyone was Germany, kind of, so they [Arsenal teammates] were happy for us.”

“Yeah, I was happy for you, pal,” Oxlade-Chamberlain said.

“Mesut reminded us every day, though, didn’t he? He still does it, he still does it, every now and again.”

Evidently proud of his achievement, Ozil had every right to flaunt his winners medal to his Arsenal teammates.

Playing in every game en route to global glory for his nation, the former Real Madrid man scored in the last 16 against Algeria for die Mannschaft.

Ozil also developed a trademark ‘bounce’ finish, with this outstanding skill showcasing the quality he possessed.

If Arsenal had managed to surround him with better attacking players and a stronger defence behind him, he certainly could have led the Gunners to the biggest trophies in the game.
