Former Man City star claims Arsenal are now a ‘great team,’ he knows Mikel Arteta well

Juventus captain and Brazil star Danilo has now admitted that he has enjoyed watching this season, and heaped praise on Mikel Arteta.

The former Manchester City defender is now one of the most experienced players for his club and country, and previously worked with Arteta whilst he was Pep Guardiola’s assistant at City.

The right-back has now praised the work Arteta has done at Arsenal, and claimed that he has enjoyed watching the Gunners this season.

This came after he lamented the injury-related absences of Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Jesus from the Brazil squad, and highlighted their importance to the National Team.

Juventus star Danilo praises Mikel Arteta and Arsenal

Speaking in a press conference, Danilo highlighted Arsenal’s brilliance and admitted that they were a team deserving of their praise.

“I’ve been following Arsenal a little bit this season and they play so good,” he stated.

“I know Arteta pretty well, he’s a good coach with good energy, he’s smart and it’s a great team to watch and learn.”

Arsenal are currently top of the Premier League, and are set to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals, but do have to travel to face Danilo’s old club Man City in the next league game.

Danilo’s relationship with Mikel Arteta

Danilo joined Man City one year after Arteta arrived as Guardiola’s assistant, but the former Real Madrid defender did not have the best spell in Manchester.

The Brazilian made 60 appearances across two seasons before joining Juventus in 2019, just months before Arteta would return to Arsenal as manager to replace Unai Emery.

Arteta’s coaching role at City saw him help Guardiola implement a style with inverted full-backs, and Danilo was brought in to replace Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta on the right.

The 32-year-old worked extensively with Arteta at Man City, and it is clear that he rates the Spaniard’s coaching ability highly.

Arsenal are competing with Man City in the title race, and Danilo as a former City player has admitted to enjoying the style of play Arteta has implemented in their title rivals, and he will know how the former midfielder operates as a coach to improve the players he has.
