Arsenal would have found many positives from Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Aston Vila despite the point moving Arne Slot’s side eight points clear.

Mikel Arteta’s side have the chance to move to within five points at the summit of the Premier League with victory over West Ham at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal fans are convinced Virgil Van Dijk is worried after the Dutch defender mentioned Arsenal in a post-match interview instead of his actual opponent Aston Villa.

There were some shaky moments for Liverpool in the draw with former Gunner Donyell Malen coming close to a winner but Arne Slot’s side have favourable fixtures at Anfield ahead of them.

Robbie Mustoe believes Arsenal should be ‘excited’ about their chances of winning the Premier League

Speaking on NBC Sports Soccer coverage of Liverpool’s clash with Aston Villa, former Premier League midfielder Robbie Mustoe discussed Slot’s side performance and explained why Arsenal should take positives from the display.

Mustoe stated: “We’ve seen Liverpool under Arne Slot very controlled, very dominant and very safe but they give up a lot of chances today and they missed some chances to score themselves.”

The former Middlesbrough midfielder went on to explain how these vulnerabilities in both boxes could give the Gunners a chance at catching Liverpool in the title race.

Mustoe explained: “This was always going to be a very big week for Liverpool, it’s a start 2-2 but I don’t know it makes the title race more exciting and Arsenal have got to be a bit more excited about their chances of winning a title now.”

Arsenal have to capitalise on their game in hand over Liverpool

For much of the season, Liverpool have had a game in hand over Arsenal after their original Merseyside Derby was postponed however, that has now changed.

Arteta’s side are the team with the pressure of having to capitalise on that game in hand and have to start with three points over West Ham to heap more significance on Liverpool’s trip to Manchester City.

Maximum points are needed from the Gunners next three fixtures before the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli can then inject some freshness into the squad.

If Arsenal can stay within touching distance of Liverpool for when the attacking options are bolstered, the Gunners may start to hear whispers of their ability to catch the Reds at the top of the table.
