There was real concern in the French camp that the Arsenal defender could miss the tournament due to an injury which was causing him real discomfort.

However, France manager Didier Deschamps has since dismissed concerns over Saliba and the 24-year-old is set to play as usual.

William Saliba is set to start for France vs Northern Ireland

William Saliba is expected to start for France in their final World Cup preparation game against Northern Ireland, according to Robin Bairner.

The 2018 World champions will be looking to bounce back from a 2-1 defeat to the Ivory Coast when they face Northern Ireland in Lille.

The Arsenal defender missed the shock defeat to the Ivory Coast, and France will be hoping to quickly have him back available.

Ibrahima Konate made a bad mistake for one of the goals, and it is clear that Les Bleus really need to add Saliba to their back line.

Saliba could easily be one of the best players at the 2026 World Cup, and he will want to finally prove himself on the international stage.

The Frenchman has just won the first major honour of his career by winning the Premier League, and now he will be hoping to do the same for his nation.

In attack, France are almost certainly stronger than any other team, but in defence and midfield, that is where there are questions which need answering.

Saliba must now prove that he doesn’t need Gabriel Magalhaes by his side to be one of the best defenders, and he has a big chance to silence the critics.
