It is very clear that Arsenal are going to sign a new midfielder this summer.

The Gunners spent a fortune last year on eight new players, and almost all of them have heavily contributed to the success so far.

One player who hasn’t had enough opportunities this season is Christian Norgaard, and he could be sold after just one year at the club.

Arsenal will need to replace him if that happens, and Mateus Fernandes of West Ham is a target for the North Londoners.

Gabby Agbonlahor has now made a big claim about the midfielder and Arsenal.

Imagine you are Andrea Berta. Who is your top target for Arsenal in the summer transfer window?

Gabby Agbonlahor says Arsenal target Mateus Fernandes is better than Martin Zubimendi

Fernandes makes a lot of sense for Arsenal.

The Portuguese midfielder has been one of West Ham’s only shining lights this season, and he is destined to join a bigger club.

Arsenal are among a few clubs interested in signing Fernandes, and everyone thinks he would be a fantastic signing.

Agbonlahor, however, has gone a step further and claimed that he is already better than Martin Zubimendi.

He said on talkSPORT: “Listen, I can see him in an Arsenal shirt. I think he’s a better player than Zubimendi, I really do.

“I’m not sure about the hype with Zubimendi.

“Lewis-Skelly’s taken his place now, but to add numbers and strengthen [I would sign Fernandes]. I think he could have his pick of Premier League clubs. I rate him highly.”

People are forgetting how good Martin Zubimendi really is

Zubimendi has had an interesting debut season at Arsenal.

The Spaniard was outstanding in the first half of the season and was one of the biggest reasons why the Gunners were so good.

However, lack of a winter break in England combined with Mikel Arteta barely ever giving him a break resulted in a predictable dip in form.

That has led to a lot of criticism, but people should not sleep on him. He is an incredible player, and we expect him to be back to his best very soon.
