Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus was always going to be a loser in the Viktor Gyokeres signing and this weekend’s game with Wigan finally saw the pair on the field together.

Viktor GyokeresJesus and Gyokeres have very much interchanged with each other through the season, albeit it is the Swedish ace who gets the nod more often.

However, with Kai Havertz picking up another injury, both Jesus and Gyokeres got onto the field together as Arsenal saw off Wigan this weekend.

And speaking on that subject, the Brazilian forward conceded that his role has changed.

Gabriel Jesus on why his Arsenal role has changed since Viktor Gyokeres arrived

Jesus has been at Arsenal pretty much since Mikel Arteta started getting his squad assembled.

He was one of the first big-money signings and if Arsenal win the league, it will be the culmination of years’ of work for him.

Gyokeres’ arrival has pushed him out of things a bit but according to the man himself, it’s not a problem.

“You know, it depends on the game, it depends on which moment of the game. Today I was doing a role that normally I don’t do but in the past I have played there,” Jesus told the media after the game.

“I like to be on the pitch, I like to be in between the lines. I think I have the capacity to play in the four positions up front so that is good for me.

“I obviously get to play with Vik, or even Kai, it’s always good. Obviously one will help each other and then today it was nice to help each other.”

Gyokeres and Jesus could shine as a partnership

We might not get to see it a lot due to the way Arsenal play but Havertz being out does give us more chance of seeing Jesus and Gyokeres together.

Jesus might not have the ability has in terms of dropping deep into midfield and making runs from the number ten area.

However, he does have experience of getting over the line when it comes to winning league titles.

That experience could prove vital during the run-in. Furthermore, Jesus’ admission he that is more than comfortable in any of the attacking positions shows he is ready to help.

If that leads to more of him and Gyokeres together, then it should prove crucial to Mikel Arteta.
