Gabriel Magalhaes contract decision

Arsenal star Gabriel Magalhaes could be in line for a new contract following his North London Derby heroics over the weekend.

The defender has been a key part of the backline for the Gunners since he joined from LOSC Lille back in 2020.

While three years remain on the 26-year-old’s deal at the Emirates Stadium, he could be set for a bumper extension.

Arsenal Insider sources understand that Arsenal chiefs are strongly considering a brand new offer for the centre-back in the weeks ahead.

Both Edu and Mikel Arteta are understood to hold the Brazilian in high regard, which may open the door to a longer stay at the club.

Jurrien Timber praised for North London Derby display

Arsenal ace Jurrien Timber made up for lost time over the weekend as he featured in his first North London Derby since joining the club.

The defender started at left-back, showing his ability to defend well while being relatively comfortable while in possession.

It’s that display, in what was the first time he tasted the rivalry with Tottenham, that Timber has received plaudits for.

Robbie Mustoe, speaking on The 2 Robbies podcast, waxed lyrical about the star, saying: “I’ve got to say, Jurrien Timber makes them better.

“I think he’s stronger defensively, certainly than Zinchenko. He’s really good going forward, he tends to stay a bit wider for the most part as a fullback.

“He slotted the ball down to Martinelli a few times. He makes their 11 better by playing at left-back.”

Micah Richards calls for Mikel Arteta praise

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has called upon the masses to give more praise to Mikel Arteta for his flexibility as a coach.

The Arsenal boss has shown an ability to win games while dominating proceedings as well as tight matches which have been far from easy.

The North London Derby was firmly in the latter category, with a raft of injury and suspension issues impacting the side.

Despite that, Richards has called for more praise to be heaped onto Arteta, saying on The Rest Is Football podcast: “Seriously, we have to start giving praise to Arteta.

“Not only because he was without key players but the fact of how flexible he’s become as a manager.

“When we talked about Arsenal before, we talked about them on the front foot, high energy, press, playing through the lines.”
