Arsenal have had a very good start to the new season.
The Gunners are unbeaten in the first nine games of the campaign, winning six and drawing three. Their most recent result was an impressive 2-0 victory over French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG boss Luis Enrique admitted that Arsenal were on a different level at the Emirates on Tuesday night, and that was certainly the case.
A number of Mikel Arteta‘s players impressed against PSG. Gabriel Martinelli appears to be blown away by one of them.
Gabriel Martinelli says Arsenal teammate William Saliba is a ‘machine’
Arsenal signed William Saliba for just £27 million in the summer of 2019, and he might be one of the best signings the club has made in years.
The Frenchman had to wait three whole years before he could make his competitive debut for the Gunners, which must have been really frustrating.
However, once he got his opportunity, he made a massive statement. Saliba has been the best centre-back in the Premier League in the last two seasons, and he has started this campaign well too.
The 23-year-old played against Paris-Saint Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday night, and he was quietly brilliant once again.
The French club’s attackers couldn’t find a way past the Gunners defender, and Saliba once again proved that he is one of the best centre-halves on the planet.
After the game, Saliba took to Instagram to celebrate his performance and the victory. His teammate, Martinelli, showed him some love.
“Machine,” he wrote under Saliba’s post.
Arsenal have a Saliba problem that they must deal with ASAP
Saliba is arguably Arsenal’s most important player.
Yes, the likes of Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard are integral to Arteta’s side too, but Arsenal are significantly weaker when Saliba is not available – just look at what happened at the end of the 2022/23 season.
The Frenchman’s incredible performances have resulted in interest from some of the biggest clubs in world football. Real Madrid are said to be really keen to sign Saliba.
Edu Gaspar just cannot allow that to happen.
The 23-year-old will enter the final two years of his contract in 2025. Allowing him to do so would be a very risky move – it could end terribly for Arsenal.
That’s why Edu has to begin contract talks with Saliba as soon as possible. His future needs to be secured before the end of this season.
