The Premier League title race has taken an early twist as Arsenal dropped points before Manchester City hosted Liverpool.

Arsenal were the favourites to win the Premier League title after matchday ten, but has the discussion changed slightly after week 11?

Mikel Arteta was devastated that Arsenal conceded against Sunderland, as the Gunners drew 2-2 against the Black Cats, dropping points for the first time since September.

The draw would’ve had the Arsenal squad closely watching Manchester City’s clash with Liverpool, and they might not’ve liked what unfolded.

Gary Lineker shares updated Arsenal Premier League title race prediction

Ahead of the game at the Etihad, the best result for Arsenal would’ve been a draw, but that wasn’t even close to happening.

Man City tore Liverpool apart, winning 3-0 and taking a vital three points to move within four points of the Gunners.

Pep Guardiola immediately spoke about the title race after the victory, putting subtle pressure on Arsenal, and now, Gary Lineker has had his say on the matter.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker shared whether he thinks the momentum in the race has shifted.

“I mean, City have picked up, certainly in recent weeks, but Liverpool have been very inconsistent,” the pundit said.

“So, yeah, I mean, you’d have to fancy Arsenal at the moment, I think, really.”

Lineker thinks Arsenal will win the league, changing his mind after initially backing Liverpool to retain the title.

The pundit is standing by the Gunners after matchday 11, but didn’t downplay the form Man City are now finding.

Arteta and Guardiola have so much respect for each other, but regardless of how fond the Arsenal manager is of his former colleague, he won’t want to face him in another title race.

City’s current form is daunting, as history will tell you, but all Arsenal can do is overcome what’s in front of them.

In the Premier League, that looks like three London derby tests against Tottenham, Chelsea and Brentford.

Three wins and Arsenal will be full of confidence after unexpectedly dropping points, but there’s no doubt that the squad will be wary of Man City.

For Guardiola’s side, the league action after the international break resumes with a testing trip to St James’ Park to face Newcastle, followed by clashes against Leeds United and Fulham.

Arsenal certainly have the tougher run of fixtures after the international break, giving Arteta the chance to quieten down talk about City’s presence.
