Gary Lineker says he cannot understand why VAR did not review any of the grappling which occurred just before West Ham’s disallowed goal against Arsenal.

VAR saved the Gunners’ blushes after Chris Kavanagh opted to disallow Callum Wilson’s 95th-minute equaliser during one of the biggest games of the season.

Was this the most nerve-racking moment you’ve ever experienced as an Arsenal fan? If not, what was? 😬

Leandro Trossard’s goal proved to be the decisive moment in the match to help the North London club remain top of the Premier League table.

The incident has proved to be one of the most controversial calls of the season, and Lineker has raised a big frustration over the decision to disallow West Ham’s equaliser.

Gary Lineker raises VAR question mark after Arsenal vs West Ham

Gary Lineker believes that West Ham United and Manchester City’s fans should rightfully feel aggrieved after Callum Wilson’s equaliser against Arsenal was chalked off.

The former Everton and Tottenham star has admitted that David Raya was fouled, but he noticed several other incidents in the penalty area which VAR missed.

There was a great deal of grappling before West Ham’s disallowed goal, and Lineker cannot understand why VAR did nothing about any of it.

Speaking about the incident on The Rest Is Football, Lineker said: “Probably a foul, but that’s not quite what we are supposed to be, is it?

“If I were a West Ham fan, or indeed a Manchester City fan, I think I’d be a little bit angry tonight because there was a lot of fouling going on at that corner.

“There was a lot of grappling by Arsenal players with the West Ham attackers. I know that goalkeepers are protected more than anyone else, and it was probably a foul on him.

“But do you not then look at what happened before, where people are being held, which is probably more an obvious foul, but you know, they turned it over.

“It depends on where the bar is at the moment. It must be a low bar at the moment to turn that one over, I would have thought. But yeah, it was probably a foul. He had his arm across him.”

Mark Clattenburg exclusively told Arsenal Insider that VAR was correct to send Kavanagh to the monitor and that a foul was awarded.

But as Lineker points out, there were plenty of other incidents which should also have been checked.
