Arsenal star Kai Havertz featured for Germany in their 2-2 draw against the Netherlands last night.
The Netherlands hosted Germany in Amsterdam for this Nations League fixture.
Kai Havertz played the full 90 minutes in this match, operating in the No. 10 role, behind striker Deniz Undav.
Earlier in this international break, when Germany beat Hungary 5-0, Havertz was able to get on the scoresheet from the penalty spot. On this occasion, though, the Arsenal man’s finishing let him down.
Germany weren’t at their best overall, but Havertz tried to make things happen in the final third for his country and worked hard throughout the match.
What the German media made of Kai Havertz vs the Netherlands
The German press weren’t thrilled by Havertz’s display, but recognised his endeavour.
National newspaper Bild rated the former Chelsea man’s display as a 4. Bild ratings work on a 1-6 system, with 1 being the best and 6 being the worst.
Meanwhile, Bulinews awarded the 25-year-old a 6/10 rating for his efforts and stated: “Worked hard, made some good runs and participated in some good combination play. But should have been more clinical in front of goal.”
Havertz was not able to find the back of the net on this occasion, as he earned his 53rd cap for his country, but he is certainly a crucial player in Julian Nagelsmann’s plans.
Havertz flaws will be familiar to Arsenal
Havertz did have chances to score against the Dutch national side, but was unable to apply a finishing touch.
It is not the first time that this has been a problem for the player. Whilst Havertz has made a strong start to the new season for Arsenal, and has already scored twice in the Premier League, the fact remains that he is not the most prolific player.
Havertz has established himself as a striker for Arsenal, and is now Mikel Arteta’s first choice pick to lead the line.
However, the Gunners were linked with many strikers over the course of the recent summer transfer window, suggesting that the manager is aware that his squad can be improved in that part of the pitch.
If poor finishing is an issue that troubles Havertz throughout the season in North London then Arsenal will soon come to regret not investing in a new goalscorer this summer.
