‘Gets done’… Jamie Carragher notices big mistake one Arsenal star has now made two games in a row

After being ahead twice in the game, Arsenal fans would be forgiven for feeling slightly disappointed after their 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

Mikel Arteta’s side were excellent in the first half, but an injury to Arsenal’s chief in defence, Gabriel Magalhaes, seemed to be the turning point for a drop in performance.

As the game went on, Arsenal’s line up became more weary, as did their attacking output.

It felt like a big ask for the Gunners to defend against Mohamed Salah and co under pressure for the majority of the second half, and that turned out to be the case.

Far from the worst result in the world, but Arsenal looked to be in the ascendancy in a boisterous first half.

Jamie Carragher spots Kai Havertz mistake in 2-2 draw with Liverpool

That being said, whilst speaking during Sky Sports’ coverage at half time, Jamie Carragher spotted a mistake that Kai Havertz made during Virgil van Dijk’s equaliser to make it 1-1.

Speaking alongside Theo Walcott, Carragher thought Havertz ‘got done’ at the near post whilst defending the corner, something Nicolas Jover will certainly review.

Carragher said: “Havertz gets done at the near post like he did last week at Bournemouth and Liverpool tried this set-piece very early on when Trent Alexander-Arnold had a free kick in the first minute.

“Luis Diaz got across Havertz and it’s obviously a plan and Virgil van Dijk just puts it into the empty net.

“Havertz normally does a brilliant job at that near post for Arsenal but its two weeks in a row now that he’s been done.”

Walcott added: “I want to see a bit of communication from Martinelli there, to let him know that a player is coming, that’s one thing I’d say, take a bit of responsibility and let him know that your man is coming.”

Gabriel Magalhaes picks up worrying knee injury

Of course, Arsenal weren’t so effective from their own set-pieces once Gabriel went off injured.

The Gunners had already lost William Saliba’s threat owing to his suspension, even if Mikel Merino was looking dangerous aerially.

Arsenal fans were gutted about Gabriel’s injury, with some already fearing what his left knee injury could mean for their title aspirations.

Although Havertz’s defending might have cost Arsenal when defending their corners, fans will be much more concerned about updates on Gabriel’s injury.

A player who Arteta simply can’t afford to lose.
