Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has given a positive injury update following on from his side’s victory against Ipswich Town in the Premier League.

The Gunners struggled to open up the visitors many times but did manage to put their noses in front through Kai Havertz in the first half.

Several chances went begging, making for a nervous end to the match, though Ipswich didn’t manage a shot on target by the end of play.

With another three points in the bag, there is still some convincing that may be needed from Arsenal to prove they can play without the injured Bukayo Saka.

Mikel Arteta gives positive Raheem Sterling injury update for Arsenal

Arteta decided to use Gabriel Martinelli on the right flank to replace Bukayo Saka, despite the forward often featuring on the left.

There would have been other options available to Arsenal though, however, Raheem Sterling’s knee injury reduced those options.

The on-loan Chelsea star was set for a long spell on the sidelines in the meantime, though there was a positive update on the winger.

Speaking on Amazon Prime Video, Arteta gave a positive update on Sterling: “We have Raheem [Sterling] with less time [out] than expected so that’s very good news.”

It suggests the star could return soon in the New Year, which may come as a huge boost to the options available in the side.

Having Sterling back at any point in January could come as a huge boost, given the fact that there is a game nearly every three days.

The ability to rotate as often as possible could be key, not least with Saka not being available for the coming run.

For Sterling, it may represent his first real chance to get into the team and hold down a shirt for the coming months ahead.

That will be the moment where he can prove he is still a top player at the top end of the pitch and the table.
