There is a lot of pressure on Arsenal this season.

The Gunners finished second in each of the last three campaigns in the Premier League, and were knocked out of the semi-finals of the Champions League last term.

Mikel Arteta’s men are so close to glory they can almost touch it, and many people feel this is their year. However, the demand from outside the club has confused a few Arsenal players, says Guillem Balague.

Three players can’t understand what people are saying about Arsenal this year

Arsenal are always under a lot of scrutiny, but it has gone to a whole new level this season.

Almost every pundit on the planet has claimed that the Gunners have to win a major title this season, which is either the Premier League or the Champions League.

Arsenal are on track to do the double, with Opta claiming that they are the favourites to win both competitions after their tremendous start to the season.

The players deserve immense credit for that, but some don’t quite understand why people are saying Arsenal ‘have to win’ a title this season.

That’s according to Balague, who said on BBC 5 Live: “I met three Arsenal players at different points of this trip, and the three of them came up with similar lines: ‘Why is everybody saying that we need to win this year?’

“It is actually what you get when you are the favourites, this impression that now, you have to win. But I agree with James (Horncastle), there is a progression, absolutely.

“To actually win the Champions League is so hard. They could get to the final; they should be in the semi-finals with what they’ve got. Winning it is a completely different matter.”

The one big reason why Arsenal can win the Premier League and Champions League

Winning either the Premier League or the Champions League is an extremely difficult task, but it’s not impossible.

The Gunners are best placed to go all the way domestically, while even though things are a lot more unpredictable in Europe, they can beat any team on their day.

The one big advantage Arsenal have over most other clubs is their incredible squad depth.

After eight new additions in the summer, Arteta has two top-class players for every position, which should help them cope with injuries.

That should allow them to go all out in the two competitions and win at least one of them, if not both.
