Arsenal have a number of players at the World Cup this summer and we’ve already seen a few get off to flying starts with their nations.

Viktor Gyokeres netted for Sweden as they hammered Tunisia, while Kai Havertz netted twice as Germany romped past Curacao.

Piero Hincapie didn’t fare too well against Ivory Coast but all eyes will turn to England now for Arsenal fans, with Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice among four Gunners involved.

However, looking at the fixtures that have already happened and those names mentioned, former Man City star Micah Richards believes that German striker Havertz deserves some praise.

Micah Richards praises Kai Havertz after watching him for Germany

Kai Havertz returned for Arsenal at the end of last season and it was little surprise that results ticked up and the Gunners got over the line.

Off to a flying start with two goals already in the World Cup, Havertz will be looking to kick on and be in contention for the Golden Boot.

Indeed, speaking on the latest Rest is Football episode, Richards believes Havertz now deserves his flowers.

“I think we now need to start talking about Kai Havertz.

“Obviously he’s just won the league for Arsenal, he always delivers. Whether that’s a lovely little touch, or whether that’s a big goal and I also thought Wirtz looked a lot better, he had that freedom as well,” Richards said.

With Havertz clearly a huge player for Mikel Arteta, it seems that Julian Nagelsmann values him just as much at international level.

Interestingly, he played the whole game as Nagelsmann rang the changes. That, in its own way, shows just how important Havertz is for the Germans.

Indeed, after getting off to such a good start, he very much is in with a shout of being one of the tournament’s star men and now having scored in four major tournaments, he’s firmly on course to being a German great.
