Arsenal fans looked on with pride last night as three of their players were part of the Spain squad who ran out World Cup winners against Argentina.

Both Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi came off the bench to help Spain win, while David Raya remained on the bench behind Unai Simon.

Indeed, it was long-term Arsenal target Ferran Torres who got the winner. Torres smashed home after Nico Williams nodded the ball back into the box from a deep cross.

Indeed, while Torres has admirers at Arsenal, so does the man who set it up, Nico Williams.

And now, according to reports, a move for the left winger could be back on.

Arsenal’s interest in Nico Williams revived following World Cup win

Nico Williams has long been considered one of the best players in Europe in his position down the left-hand side.

However, he has always remained loyal to Athletic Bilbao and as of now, has never pushed for a move away.

Nevertheless, according to TeamTalk, the time might have come for Williams to move on. And Arsenal are waiting in the wings.

It’s suggested that Andrea Berta has proposed Williams as an option for Mikel Arteta’s squad as the Gunners look to add genuine star quality down the left.

Arsenal are believed to admire Williams still and his apparent £77m release-clause is well within budget.

The Gunners – and Berta in particular – are under pressure to land a top target in attack after fumbling the chance to sign Morgan Rogers and seeing Chelsea nip in to sign him.

Furthermore, after selling Leandro Trossard and being open to offers for Gabriel Martinelli, Arsenal are going to be left short on the left if they don’t land a new signing.

Williams himself has not quite hit the heights many expected he would in recent years. Indeed, he has yet to register double figures in league goals in a single season.

Still, at just 24, the time might be right for a fresh start and this would not be the worst business for Arsenal to do.
