A controversial penalty decision meant that Arsenal slipped further behind in the Premier League title race following their 1-1 draw away at Brighton.
Ex-PGMOL chief Keith Hackett has slammed ‘poor’ decisions made against Arsenal this season but boss Mikel Arteta would have been frustrated that his side couldn’t capitalise on an early Ethan Nwaneri opener.
Attentions now move on to the EFL Cup semi-final at Home to Newcastle United, Arsenal have been handed a boost with the Magpies also missing some key players for the tie.
However, with title rivals Liverpool also still in the competition, winning the EFL Cup may prove to be just as difficult as winning the title and a Premier League midfielder has revealed his thoughts on the difference between Arsenal and Liverpool.

Tom Cairney reveals the difference between Arsenal and Liverpool
Speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football post-match coverage, Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney revealed what he thought the main difference was between title rivals Arsenal and Liverpool having played both sides this season.
Cairney stated: “I think Liverpool are a little bit more devastating going forward. I feel like Arsenal are solid, they’ve got some amazing players but when you play Liverpool I feel like they can score at any moment.”
The Fulham captain then also went on to claim, “Arsenal are dangerous, they have got dangerous players but Liverpool have got more of a threat on the front line.’
Fulham drew with both sides in December, holding Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage and then securing a 2-2 draw at Anfield, which has left Liverpool with a comfortable six point cushion at the top of the Premier League table.

Arsenal trailing Liverpool in a number of key attacking metrics
Arsenal have been hit by a number of key injuries to their forward line this season, Bukayo Saka is missing for at least two months and now Ethan Nwaneri is out for a few weeks with a muscular problem.
Despite their injury woes, Arsenal have not been firing in an attacking sense this season and with Liverpool being the league’s top scorers, Arteta knows this is an area in need of improvement.
| Key attacking metric (Premier league 24/25) | Liverpool | Arsenal |
| Goals scored | 47 | 39 |
| Goals per match | 2.5 | 2 |
| Expected goals (XG) | 44.8 | 35 |
| Shots on target per match | 6.9 | 5.1 |
| Big chances created | 85 | 67 |
It is clear to see that the threat Cairney was alluding to is underlined in a number of key attacking metrics this season. Arsenal will point to key absences such as Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka but the bottom line is Liverpool have proven they have more firepower.
With the January transfer window now upon us, perhaps it is time for Arteta to introduce some fresh creativity into his Gunners front line.
