Ben White went off injured during Arsenal’s 4-0 FA Cup win over Wigan; however, there is hope that it was just a precaution.
The Gunners stormed into the next round of the competition, thrashing the Lactics 4-0, with Noni Madueke, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and an own goal sealing the win.
🤑 Should Arsenal cash in on Ben White after his latest injury vs Wigan?
It was not all positive news for the North London club as Riccardo Calafiori and White both picked up issues at the Emirates Stadium.
Mikel Arteta will now be sweating over the fitness of Calafiori, although White’s injury seems to be much more positive than the Italian’s issue.
Ben White’s injury is hopefully just a ‘precaution’
Ben White’s injury is hopefully just a ‘precaution’ after the defender was spotted chatting to Arteta and then sitting on the bench, according to Simon Collings.
Most likely, had the issue been serious, the 28-year-old would have headed straight down the tunnel, but the latest update seems to be positive.
After watching White come off, Collings wrote on social media: “Quick word with Mikel and then sat on the bench, so yeah, hopefully a precaution.”
True or false: Arsenal are a better team when Ben White plays over Jurrien Timber…
White has had his fair share of injuries this season, and Arteta will be keen not to lose him for another extended period.
Jurrien Timber looked exhausted against Brentford, and Arteta cannot afford to run the Dutch defender into the ground, with no rotation option.
White will now be assessed in the coming days, and there is hope that the defender has not suffered anything serious.
Mikel Arteta on Riccardo Calafiori and Ben White’s injuries
Arteta has revealed that Calafiori and White were both injury doubts to play against Wigan and will now need to be assessed in the next 24 hours.
Speaking to the media after the game, Arteta said, “Riccardo and Ben were the only doubts. We will have to see in the next 24 hours how they develop.”
Losing Calafiori would also be a massive blow for the Gunners as it would put pressure on Piero Hincapie to remain fit in a congested run of fixtures.
