Arsenal’s goalkeeping situation has perhaps become the most scrutinised position at the club in recent weeks, after David Raya usurped Aaron Ramsdale in the pecking order.
Raya received criticism despite keeping a clean sheet in the victory over Manchester City on Sunday, with fans frustrated in the first half at some shaky moments with the ball at his feet, but he regained his confidence well and overall put in a strong performance.
The Spaniard has now seemingly overtaken Ramsdale as Arsenal’s number-one option, and many have questioned whether there would be bad blood between the pair given that Ramsdale has been a top performer over the last two seasons.
No animosity between Arsenal’s goalkeepers
A report from The Athletic has now claimed that Ramsdale and Raya are both amicable towards each other, with the club delighted at how both players are pushing each other on in training.
“Although it appears there is now a clear first choice, there has been no animosity between the players. Arteta and Cana are happy with both players as options, who they view as excellent, and the level of training has surged as the ‘keepers push each other to perform better,” the report claimed.
Arsenal’s goalkeeping rotation

Raya seems to be the first choice in the Premier League for now, but if this is the case, then Ramsdale deserves a chance in the Champions League.
Ramsdale’s performances last season helped Arsenal qualify for the competition for the first time in six years, and he now deserves the opportunity to play on the European stage.
Raya can continue in goal in the League, with his long passing ability showing why Arteta brought him in, but if the two are set to compete for the number one spot, then Ramsdale needs gametime to try and earn his place back.
