Arsenal have not enjoyed a great relationship with Europe’s premier competition, the UEFA Champions League.
Arsenal have never won the Champions League and the closest they came was back in 2006 when they were narrowly defeated by Barcelona in Paris, Sol Campbell was the Gunners goal scorer that night.
It was a trophy that ultimately eluded the legendary boss Arsene Wenger but this season Mikel Arteta will have the opportunity to rewrite history with a tie against defending champions Real Madrid.
Arsenal have a nightmare route to the final but will be buoyed by their solidity in defence, the club also holds a record in the competition that started back in March 2006.

Jens Lehmann broke Champions League record for Arsenal in 2006
During their historic run to the Champions League final in 2006, Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann broke a record by keeping the most consecutive clean sheets in the competition.
The run began with a 1-0 win over Real Madrid in the Bernabeu and stretched all the way to the final as Arsenal progressed past Juventus in the quarter final and Villareal in the semi final.
As per SportsKeeda, Lehmann revealed on talkSport once that he ‘was always arguing’ with Thierry Henry but the pair both produced heroic moments during that campaign.

Henry’s solo stunner in Madrid was then topped by Lehmann’s penalty save in the dying moments of their semi final against Villareal, meaning the Gunners progressed 1-0 on aggregate to their first and only Champions League final.
Arsenal did not concede a goal for a record 853 minutes before Samuel Eto’o broke their hearts with a 76th minute equaliser in the final and then Juliano Belletti struck a winner in the 81st minute.
The defensive effort still stands as a record today, eclipsing the efforts of goalkeeping greats such as Gianluigi Buffon and Iker Casillas.
Jens Lehmann also did not get on with Manuel Almunia
The Invincibles side goes down in history with fans and many Arsenal legends were a part of that side and the years beyond the 2003-04 season.
However, the squad was not always harmonious, David Seaman revealed Lehmann and Manuel Almunia hated each other on his recent podcast ‘Seaman Says.’
Gunners great Seaman explained: “I remember, I think it was Jens Lehmann and Almunia – they didn’t like each other.
“They didn’t speak. They wouldn’t warm each other up in the warm-up, so the coach had to go and do the warm-up with them.”
