Arsenal sporting director Edu Gaspar is preparing to leave his role in Mikel Arteta’s project.
News of the Brazilian’s expected departure has shocked many, with Edu one of the most unlikely figures to leave the club.
That is the view from the outside anyway, as the sporting director prepares for the next step in his career.
Arteta will have to prepare for life without his sidekick, with plenty set to be in store for the South American outside of North London.

Edu’s summer stance on Arsenal exit
The news might have come as a shock to those associated with Arsenal however, it’s beginning to seem like an exit could have been a long time coming for Edu.
Daily Mail journalist Sami Mokbel broke the news and followed up with an indication as to why Edu is eyeing a move away.
It’s understood that the Brazilian decided to leave with a sense of uncertainty hitting the sporting director at the start of the summer.
Mokbel writes that there was a sense that ‘Edu was getting itchy feet’, followed up by an explanation that things ‘perhaps’ could have gone stale, with an idea that the former midfielder was not being challenged adequately.
Such explanation ties into why Edu is being linked to joining Evangelos Marinakis, who currently owns Nottingham Forest, Rio Ave and Olympiacos.
It’s said that the ‘allure’ of multi-club models could ‘be a factor’ to Edu’s pending Arsenal departure, with the Daily Mail’s information stating that the Brazilian ‘recognised the attraction’ of the growing model.
Mikel Arteta will be shocked by Edu’s departure
Amid all of the news regarding Edu, it’s important to reflect on what the former midfielder has installed during his time in the role at the club.

Alongside Arteta, the two former players have brought the culture back to Arsenal and have built a squad that has all the fundamentals to be incredibly successful.
Given how Arsenal looked when Edu earned his promotion, the Brazilian deserves high praise for his work alongside Arteta, who will desperately miss his colleague.
In 2022, Arteta hoped that Edu would stay for a long time, with ties set to be cut far earlier than the Spaniard would have hoped.
