‘I pray’ – Arsene Wenger reveals what Arsenal need to win the Premier League title over Liverpool

Arsenal are still battling away with Liverpool in the hope of winning the Premier League title this season.

So far, it’s advantage to the Merseyside outfit, who have been in relatively imperious form throughout the campaign so far.

The Gunners sit in second, seven points behind their rivals and with just 13 games remaining before the title is lifted.

Arsenal know how tough it can be to maintain a lead like that once the season enters the final few months, where every competition ramps up.

It will take a lot for the Premier League title to end up with Mikel Arteta, but it isn’t totally impossible either, with Arsene Wenger outlining what is required for that to happen, however unlikely it may be.

Arsene Wenger outlines Premier League title race between Arsenal and Liverpool

With another gameweek gone by, both Arsenal and Liverpool picked up wins to further their points tally for the season.

For the Gunners, they kept the pressure on early while the Reds had to respond in order to keep their seven-point gap.

While Arteta is relying on a collapse from Liverpool, it isn’t totally out of the question as Wenger explained on beIN Sports.

The former Arsenal manager said: “They [Liverpool] need to lose games but now we are 25 games played, Liverpool have only lost one.

“So they have to lose three at least in the next 13 games, so at the moment it looks unlikely unless they collapse but until now they lost only one game.

“So they are the super favourite and on top of that, Arsenal have to make the perfect run.

“I pray [for Arsenal to win the Premier League title], I pray but I have to improve the quality of my praying.”

It means that Arsenal are relying on some help around them to claw some points back, while they need to keep up some form themselves.

Key games Arsenal will target against Liverpool

So with seven points needed to claw back the difference, there will be some important games Arsenal will want to target.

The Gunners will, firstly, have to overcome the Reds themselves in early May, which could prove to be a pivotal six-pointer in the title race – although it is at Anfield, which makes it tougher.

The gap could close before then though, not least as Liverpool have tough games coming up away at Aston Villa and Manchester City before hosting Newcastle.

Of those games, some dropped points from the leaders would certainly open up a gap for Arsenal to take advantage.

After that, they have a slightly clearer run on paper which may well spell the end of the title challenge altogether if they don’t drop points.
