‘I would want to return’: 6ft 5in ace Edu sold says he wants to come back to Arsenal one day

Arsenal confirmed last month that Zech Medley has joined Belgian side KV Oostende on a permanent deal after five years in North London.

The 6ft 5in tall central defender joined us as a teenager from Chelsea in 2016 and went on to captain our under-18’s side. He was viewed by many as a huge prospect, but sadly, he never managed to nail down a spot in the first team.

He played a grand total of 64 minutes for the Arsenal senior side, none of which came in the Premier League. Medley has moved on now and he’s hoping to have a fine career in Belgium. However, he has admitted that he would love to return to the Emirates one day.

The 21-year-old told Het Nieuwsblad: “Last season I was loaned out to Gillingham in League One, then Kilmarnock in Scotland. Twice a very instructive experience, especially on a physical level. But in the Belgian league, I want to become a better footballer.

“Since I was 16 I went through the youth teams at Arsenal, but with the first team, I often struggled with injuries. And if I had a good period, at most I made the bench. At some point, you have to think about yourself and your own career. But someday, I want to return.”

Medley back at Arsenal one day?

There’s no doubt about the fact that Medley is a highly talented footballer. He had two very impressive loan spells at Kilmarnock and Gillingham, and there’s a very good chance that he will develop into a quality defender in Oostende.

Arsenal currently have Rob Holding, Calum Chambers, Pablo Mari, Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba. We’re set to sign Ben White as well, which left no room for Medley to stake his claim. He was right to move on, but Edu did something really smart before agreeing to sell him.

The Sun revealed last month that Arsenal have inserted a buy-back clause in his contract. We will have the first option to bring him back if he becomes a star in Belgium, and that could potentially open the door for the talented defender to return to the Emirates one day.
