The Athletic revealed a few weeks ago that Arsenal are monitoring Sassuolo defender Mert Muldur.
The Gunners are on the lookout for a new right-back as Hector Bellerin is set to leave the club. The Spaniard has been a fantastic servant for Arsenal over the last decade, and replacing him with a quality defender has to be a priority.
Mikel Arteta already has Cedric Soares and Calum Chambers as options at right full-back. They’re both excellent players, but neither are on the same level as Kieran Tierney on the opposite side.
Arsenal need someone like Tierney on the right and Muldur is a very interesting option. The Athletic claimed that Edu has been watching the Turk for over a year now, and if a report from his home country is to be believed, he is expected to be available for a bargain fee.

Arsenal can sign Mert Muldur for just £8.5m
Turkish outlet Star have revealed today that Muldur is attracting interest from Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United. He is set to leave Sassuolo this summer, and the Serie A side aren’t demanding an awful lot of money for him either.
The report claims that Sassuolo are only looking for a fee between £8.5 million and 12.8 million for Muldur. That is almost nothing in today’s market, and it wouldn’t be a surprise at all to see more clubs move in for him in the coming weeks.
The Turk’s agent, Max Hagmayr, confirmed that there is interest in Muldur from English clubs. He hinted that his client would be willing to move to the Premier League, which is excellent news for all the interested parties.
He said, as per Star: “He showed a very successful performance against Switzerland with the Turkish National jersey at left-back. There are also suitors from the Premier League. We will see if there is a possibility to bring Mert to England.”

The Insider’s View:
If Hector Bellerin does end up leaving this summer, Arsenal will have to sign a new right-back. However, with Chambers, Cedric and even Ainsley Maitland-Niles available at the moment, it doesn’t look like the Gunners are actively pursuing a new player in that position.
If Arteta can convince Maitland-Niles to stay and play as a right-back instead of being adamant about featuring in central midfield, the Gunners might not need a new player to replace Bellerin this summer. However, if his previous comments are anything to go by, he isn’t at all keen to play there.

That could force Arsenal to sell him and bring in a new right-back, and Muldur would be an interesting option. He’s still only 22, is an excellent dribbler and can play on the opposite side as well. At just £8.5 million, he could prove to be a very shrewd signing, but this move isn’t expected to happen any time soon.
