Ian Wright explains exactly how Arsenal can beat Manchester City at the Etihad

At the end of this month, Arsenal will travel to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City in what will be a crucial game in the Premier League title race.

Arsenal are just one point behind Pep Guardiola’s side, who are set to take on league leaders Liverpool this weekend, and an International break in between the fixtures means that both sides could either be well rested, or suffer fresh injury issues when they meet.

Mikel Arteta’s side travelled to the Etihad last April in a bid to keep their title hopes alive, but were soundly beaten 4-1, and they have not won at this stadium since 2015.

However, Arsenal legend Ian Wright is confident his side can secure what would be a gargantuan victory at Man City, who are unbeaten at home this season.

Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Wright claimed that if Man City play their usual attacking game at home, Arsenal now know how to play through them.

“I don’t wish it was at home. I think that City will come for us, how they usually go for teams, they’re not gonna change how they play, they’re gonna come for us, they’re gonna try and play,” he stated.

“We can play through City. We’ve got pace and skill, we can.”

Arsenal can rely on experience to beat Man City now

Arsenal drew 1-1 in the Community Shield before winning on penalties, and beat Guardiola’s side again in the league in a narrow 1-0 victory in October, with Gabriel Martinelli scoring a late winner.

This was the first time Arsenal had beaten Man City in any competition since 2020, and the first time they had beaten Guardiola’s Man City in the Premier League.

In previous years when Arsenal have faced City, they have suffered humiliating and heavy defeats. They now have experience to call upon, where the players in the starting XI all know what it feels like to win this fixture.

Arsenal have not had this before when facing City under Guardiola, and even in games in which they performed well, they found themselves unable to snatch a result.

The victories earlier this season may have changed that, and they can take extra confidence going into the game at the Etihad, knowing that they have the ability, tactical nous and quality within the side to grab a positive result.
