Arsenal legend Ian Wright has now revealed that he regrets a recent comment he made about the club’s strikers.
A lack of goals has been a huge problem for Arsenal in recent weeks. The Gunners are in abysmal form, having lost their last three matches, across all competitions. They have only found the back of the net once over the course of those three outings.
This trio of consecutive defeats has cost the north London club dearly. They have lost ground in the Premier League title race, having been top of the table at Christmas. They were also dumped out of the FA Cup by Liverpool last time out.
A lack of goalscoring opportunities in these games has not been the problem for Mikel Arteta’s side. Rather, their wastefulness when presented with chances has cost them. The likes of Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, and Gabriel Martinelli, amongst others, have all been profligate in this regard.
As the club’s first choice striker, Jesus has been particularly disappointing in front of goal this season. Over the course of the Premier League campaign so far, the Brazilian has chipped in with just three strikes. For all of his other qualities, Arsenal need more end product from the former Manchester City man.
Jesus has come in for plenty of criticism this season for his lack of goals. It is also unsurprising that Arsenal consider signing a new striker to be a priority in the current January transfer window, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

Ian Wright rues dig at Arsenal strikeforce
It was during the loss against Liverpool, when Havertz was tasked with leading the line in Jesus’ absence, that Ian Wright made his feelings clear as he watched the German spurn multiple chances.
Wright took to X to state, “we need a killer.”
Wright is a man who knows what it takes to be prolific at the highest level. In his seven seasons on the books at Arsenal, he netted 185 times, becoming the club’s all-time record goalscorer at that time.
However, the 60-year-old now regrets the comment he made in the wake of the loss against Liverpool. Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, he explained, “with time to reflect, watching that game I was seeing so many chances created and missed, and it was so frustrating, but with hindsight I probably wouldn’t have put that tweet out, but that’s how it goes. We’re creating chances, to have four players in double figures last season nowhere near their numbers, it’s an anomaly, it’s not right what’s going on.”
There is goalscoring talent in this squad, that is for sure. Arteta will be hoping that Arsenal’s recent sojourn to a training camp in Dubai will have given his players a chance to recharge their batteries and rediscover their clinical edge. They certainly need to be far more efficient in the final third in the second half of the campaign.
