Ian Wright is worried that Arsenal could well face Manchester City in the Champions League final and thinks Pep Guardiola’s team have finally found their groove.
Mikel Arteta’s team are on for a historic quadruple this season; however, City will also fancy their chances of stopping the Gunners from winning all four trophies.
🔮 Which stage of the Champions League will Arsenal reach?
Arteta will once again need to face his former tutor, Guardiola, to win the Premier League, but that could also be the case in the Champions League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
Following the weekend’s result, Wright is now predicting that the two teams will meet in the Champions League final this season.
Ian Wright predicts Arsenal vs Man City Champions League final
Ian Wright is predicting an all-English Champions League final involving Arsenal and Manchester City.
Guardiola’s team face a seriously tough route to the final in Budapest, facing Real Madrid in the Round of 16.
Meanwhile, Arsenal will be delighted with their Champions League route, with a Round of 16 tie against Bayer Leverkusen.
Speaking about Arsenal and City, Wright told Premier League Productions’ The Weekend Wrap: “I still feel that there’s something that says to me that they’re going to get them in the Champions League as well. I just feel it’s just.
“You know, when you get a lot of seasons, you just feel one of those seasons where you just get the same team continually in different places.
🔮 YOU PREDICT: How many more times will Mikel Arteta have to face Pep Guardiola this season…
“I just feel that that might happen, hopefully not, but we’re looking at a City side that looks like they’re in that flow of consistency. Arsenal need to make sure that they’re in that as well, because they’ve got to see them off.”
It would be quite unprecedented to see City and Arsenal face off in three major cup finals and in the league, but right now, it looks like a real possibility.
Mikel Arteta’s poor record against Pep Guardiola
The big worry about Arsenal having to face is Arteta’s poor record against Guardiola, with the Arsenal boss losing to him more than any other manager.
Arteta has faced Guardiola on 15 occasions during his managerial career, winning just four, drawing three and losing eight matches.
Earlier this season, City nearly turned up at the Emirates Stadium and won, only for Gabriel Martinelli’s late equaliser to rescue a point.
