Ian Wright left frustrated by VAR call on Declan Rice red card

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has revealed his frustration at VAR for not overturning a red card decision surrounding Declan Rice.

The midfielder was sent off for a second bookable offence against Brighton and Hove Albion for delaying the match restarting.

Rice took a touch to deny Joel Veltman from continuing play, which led to referee Chris Kavanagh brandishing a booking for the incident.

It was a decision that ultimately led to the Gunners drawing the match and dropping points for the first time this Premier League season.

On the decision, Wright said on his podcast Wrighty’s House: “You can’t restart the game with a moving ball.

“You know how many times we’ve seen players put the ball down and there’s no one around them and it’s moving and you take it and the referee pulls it back?

“What I’m upset about is that the VAR, who should know the rules, should have seen that the ball was moving, even though Declan was coming over to it, so you can’t restart the game anyway.”

Arsenal chance at Mykhailo Mudryk transfer

Arsenal moved late in the summer transfer window to secure a surprise loan transfer switch for Chelsea star Raheem Sterling.

The winger has become the latest big name to switch blue for red in recent years, but he may not have been the only one who could’ve done that.

According to Team News and Tick, the Gunners were offered a shock opportunity to land Mykhailo Mudryk on loan from Chelsea too.

The North London club ended up vetoing the move for the Ukrainian international 18 months after he was linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta was pushing hard to land the winger back in January 2023 from Shakhtar Donetsk but in a dramatic turn of events he moved to Stamford Bridge.

He has since struggled to hit the heights, where he may well have done at Arsenal instead.

Fresh Victor Osimhen transfer chance

Over the summer transfer window, Arsenal were linked with a potential transfer for striker Victor Osimhen.

However, the Gunners opted against a deal, despite the forward being available to leave Napoli after the arrival of Antonio Conte.

Chelsea, along with Saudi Pro League clubs, were looking at a deal for the Nigerian international but couldn’t seal an agreement.

Instead, Osimhen made the surprise switch to Turkey, signing with Galatasaray on a season-long loan deal.

Despite that switch, Arsenal may still have a chance to sign Osimhen on a permanent deal in the January window.

The Standard reports that there is a break clause in the contract which would allow certain clubs to trigger a transfer.

The Gunners are among those clubs who are eligible to make the deal work in the months ahead.
