Ian Wright says two things Mikel Arteta has done have swayed his Premier League title prediction

Premier League predictions have been flying around as the opening day grows closer. 

Countless figures have predicted whether Arsenal can win the league this season, ending the Gunners’ 22-year wait. 

Fans aside, few will be more desperate to deliver the trophy than Mikel Arteta, who has watched his side finish runners-up for three seasons in a row. 

With a fully-charged and significantly bolstered Arsenal squad, there’s hope that the North Londoners can finally get the job done, but there are so many hurdles to clear first.

Ian Wright gives Arsenal Premier League title prediction 

One of the biggest hurdles is Liverpool, who, after winning the Premier League by ten points last season, have strengthened their favoured XI quite staggeringly.

Liverpool are favourites to win the league among pundits, but not Ian Wright, who gave his verdict on Arsenal’s title chances ahead of the opener at Old Trafford. 

The Arsenal legend fought his former club’s case on The Overlap, noting two reasons why he firmly believes this could be the Gunners’ year. 

“I hope so, I think so,” Wright said before applauding the signings of Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi. 

“We’ve added to a team that I think has finished second three times now, and we’ve added goals to it now. You know, Zubimendi, especially with that mid block, that we can’t break.

“Zubimendi, watching how he plays, he can break through there. We’ve got Gyokeres; he can score goals. But when you look at the fact that, you know, 17 goals, what was it, Liverpool, 17 goals, we were behind them the season before, seven against City.

“But defensively, we’re brilliant against both of those teams. So if we can sort that out, and this mid block, then yeah, I’m going to go for Arsenal again, of course I am.”

Wright has confidence in the decisions Arteta made to sign both of the players, already envisioning what they’ll do to make Arsenal even better.

Martin Zubimendi and Viktor Gyokeres are clear upgrades

Jamie Carragher thinks Arteta prevented Liverpool from signing Zubimendi, and now, the Spaniard could give the Gunners a boost in the title race. 

It’s already so clear what the 26-year-old adds to the midfield, being combative and intelligent with his distribution, which was what Arsenal were missing last season in transition. 

As Wright raised, the biggest issue was how superior Liverpool were to the Gunners on the goals front, an issue that Arteta has addressed by signing Gyokeres.

As seen above, the Swede is a significant upgrade on Arsenal’s goalscoring options last season, being a signing guaranteed to give the North Londoners a boost if he can hit the ground running.

The season opener is in touching distance, with the campaign eagerly anticipated for all involved.
