Ian Wright has suggested that one aspect of Bukayo Saka’s game is being overlooked by Arsenal fans and pundits.

The 22-year-old winger has enjoyed his best season yet as a professional player with Saka scoring 20 goals in all competitions as well as bagging 14 assists, pushing Arsenal forward in the Premier League title race.

Breaking records set by Wright, Saka’s form has been nothing short of exceptional this season, with the England international taking his game to a new level and establishing himself as a truly world-class player.

Yet Wright has noted that there’s one aspect to Saka’s game that is overlooked.

Wright highlight’s Saka ‘intelligent’ defensive work for Arsenal

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Wright highlighted how good Saka is in his defensive work, which this season, alongside Ben White, has been key in Arsenal keeping a tight ship at the back.

The north London side have conceded the fewest goals out of any Premier League team this season, and Saka’s work in tracking back and helping out when needed down the right has been influential in maintaining in this record.

Wright said when asked about what Saka offers to Arsenal: “You look at Saka’s numbers, not just his goals and assists but his defensive work, which is always overlooked.

“He’s a very intelligent player when it comes to helping the team. He’s got such a level that it’s normalising very, very consistent play.”

Saka’s fitness levels have hit new heights this season

Having played close to 4,000 minutes this season, Saka’s fitness has never been as good as it is now, with the winger missing just four games in all competitions for Arsenal.

And Wright highlighting Saka’s defensive work is a testament to how much Saka’s fitness levels have increased, with the attacker at the peak of his physicality this season.

Whilst there is a constant fear that this all might be too much for the 22-year-old, Saka is showing no sign of slowing down yet, and Arsenal fans will hope the forward can maintain this level heading into the new campaign.
