Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City provided the Premier League with the drama expected from the magnitude of the fixture.

Over 90 minutes at the Etihad Stadium, the two favourites for the Premier League title went head-to-head in extraordinary circumstances.

Both sides had their key creators missing and most prominently, Mikel Arteta’s squad was reduced to 10 men as Leandro Trossard was sent off in the first half.

As a result, Arsenal faced an uphill battle to protect their 2-1 lead in the second half, seeing John Stones break down the barrier with seconds to spare to level the scoring.

Injury expert provides verdict on Rodri’s injury after Man City vs Arsenal

The fixture almost had it all, as there were dismissals, late goals, tactical masterclasses and sadly, a key injury.

Manchester City midfielder Rodri was the talk of the first half, as the Spaniard was forced to withdraw after going down unchallenged in his own box.

It’s never a nice sight to see a player go down in as much discomfort and distress as Rodri did, resulting in the 28-year-old hobbling off the pitch after just 20 minutes of play.

Things could be about to get even worse for City with regard to Rodri’s withdrawal, as an injury analyst has shared their verdict on the Spaniard’s blow.

On X, analyst Physio Scout explained their belief that Rodri could have suffered a gruelling ACL tear due to what was seen via video analysis.

“Via video analysis, we believe it’s an ACL tear (+/- meniscus injury), as right knee shifts into knee valgus, direction change and a slight tibia bone shift.

“Scans will be necessary to confirm the injury. Best case here is that it’s just a meniscus injury, but the injury did not look good. Hopefully, he avoids an ACL injury at all costs here.”

The analyst then handed a possible recovery time of at least nine months, if City’s nightmare is confirmed.

Man City’s record without Rodri

It would truly be a nightmare for City, who are a far more effective side with Rodri involved in midfield.

There’s a reason that the Spaniard is one of the favourites to win the Ballon d’Or, as well as him being unbeaten in 52 consecutive Premier League fixtures.

City haven’t lost with Rodri in the side since early 2023, telling of the importance of Pep Guardiola having him fit and ready to contribute.

The figures speak for themselves regarding his position in the squad, with City losing just 11% of matches with him in the side, which rises to 24% without him.

Arsenal are aware of the repercussions of their title rivals not having Rodri available, with the Gunners recording one of the three wins that came against City last term when the Spaniard was out.

The 28-year-old was absent for all three of City’s defeats last season, with the prospect of him suffering a season-ending ACL tear something that could significantly alter the title race.
