Injury expert suggests how many weeks Gabriel Magalhaes could now miss for Arsenal

Arsenal look to have suffered a major injury blow as Gabriel Magalhaes has picked up a groin issue whilst away on international duty.

Gabriel was forced off during Brazil’s 2-0 win over Senegal in an international friendly and looked in some discomfort.

The Brazilian international walked off at the Emirates Stadium, but could be seen clutching the top of his groin, which is not a promising indication.

There is just one week until the North London derby, and the Gunners will be left sweating over how long the 27-year-old could be sidelined for.

Concerns Gabriel Magalhaes might have suffered a grade two groin injury

There are concerns that Gabriel Magalhaes might have suffered a Grade two groin injury, which could see him miss several weeks for Arsenal, according to Physio Scout.

The injury expert spotted the Arsenal star holding the top of his groin/adductor area, which tends to be more serious than issues further down the muscle.

Grade two groin problems often take three to six weeks to recover; meanwhile, a Grade three injury would see him miss between six to eight weeks plus.

The North London club will need to fully assess the injury and will be hoping that the issue is only minor at this stage.

The best-case scenario would be a recovery time of around one week to three, although he would need to be monitored day to day.

Whilst Gabriel has been one of the best defenders on the planet, Arsenal will be cautious about rushing him back, especially given their backup options.

Arsenal’s improved squad depth means that Mikel Arteta’s team is now well-equipped to deal with injuries, and one of Cristhian Mosquera or Piero Hincapie could replace him.

Gabriel Magalhaes’ leadership is a massive loss for Arsenal

But whilst Arsenal are well covered in defence, losing the defender’s leadership in the back line is certainly a huge blow for the Gunners.

The former Lille star also offers a serious threat from set-pieces, so losing that is another big blow for Arteta ahead of a big run of games.

The Gunners’ next three matches see them host Tottenham, Bayern Munich and then travel away to Chelsea in the Premier League.

Hopefully, Martin Odegaard will be back from injury soon and once again be the main leader in this Arsenal team.
