Former Arsenal star Jack Wilshere has officially confirmed his exit from Norwich City as he looks to pursue a role as head coach elsewhere.

The 33-year-old has stepped into the world of coaching, following his early retirement from his playing career back in 2022.

Since then, Jack Wilshere has been part of the Arsenal academy, helping develop the next set of first-team stars.

He has had an impact on the likes of Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly, who are currently making a name for themselves, as well as the up-and-coming Max Dowman.

Wilshere then went on to join Norwich as part of their backroom staff, leaving Arsenal for a new challenge.

It hasn’t quite gone to plan, with his exit now confirmed, but the former midfielder has revealed his plans after.

Arsenal hero Jack Wilshere confirms Norwich exit and plans to become a head coach

Wilshere left Arsenal in 2024 to search for more opportunities in a senior setup at a club, joining Norwich in the Championship to do just that.

He was drafted in by Johannes Hoff Thorup, the manager of the Canaries, hopeful of adding something to the setup.

In April 2025, following a difficult run of form, Thorup was dismissed and Wilshere became the interim manager.

After taking charge of the final two games, there was some hope that Wilshere could have become Norwich manager on a full-time basis.

However, those hopes have been dashed as he revealed his exit on social media in a recent post, while confirming his desire to become a head coach.

“I can confirm that I have today left Norwich City in order to pursue my own career as a Head Coach,” the 33-year-old said.

“I’d like to thank everyone at Norwich for the opportunity to continue my coaching journey with you all, I built some relationships that will continue to grow.

“Thank you to the incredible Canaries fans for welcoming me so warmly from the very first moment I joined.

“I’ve loved every minute of my time at the club and I’d like to wish you all the very best for the future. Jack.”

It shows the ambition Wilshere now has to progress and to become a head coach in his own right elsewhere.

Where could Jack Wilshere go next as head coach?

Jack Wilshere is set to follow in the footsteps of his former teammates by taking the step into football management.

Wilshere previously thanked Mikel Arteta for putting him on the path to coaching, having seen how he has progressed from a player to a manager.

There are a few jobs going in the Championship, such as those at Hull and West Brom, but there could be some elsewhere that could attract Wilshere.

Cesc Fabregas’s success as Como manager could well tempt the Englishman to look abroad to hone his football philosophy.

Fellow Englishman Liam Rosenior, for example, is impressing at RC Strasbourg in France, showing that taking a risk to move elsewhere can work.

It remains to be seen where Wilshere goes next, but there are some big opportunities out there waiting to be taken.
