Arsenal have an incredible squad.

Mikel Arteta inherited a very poor and ageing side when he took the Gunners’ job in December 2019, but he has completely transformed the club over the last six years.

Arsenal now have a team capable of challenging on all fronts, and some of their players are up there with the best in the world in their position.

Former Arsenal star and academy coach Jack Wilshere is in love with one of them.

Jack Wilshere says Arsenal star Jurrien Timber can play in nine positions

Jurrien Timber has been one of Arsenal’s best signings in a long time.

The Dutchman was brought in from Ajax in the summer of 2023, but he suffered a serious knee injury that ruled him out for most of that season.

However, since the start of the 2024/25 campaign, Timber has been absolutely incredible for the Gunners and has consistently been brilliant.

Wilshere, who played with some great players for club and country back in the day, has revealed that he loves Timber, who is so good that he is capable of playing in nine different positions.

He said on talkSPORT: “The one that I really love, I don’t know what you think, is Timber.

“Timber, I think maybe apart from number nine and in goal, he gives you something in every single position. He is aggressive, wins his duels, he looks like a leader.”

Mikel Arteta hasn’t fully taken advantage of Jurrien Timber’s versatility

Timber is one of the most versatile players in Arsenal’s squad.

The Dutch international has mostly been used as a right-back, but Arteta has given him opportunities on the opposite side as well, where he has been brilliant.

Timber has also played four times as a centre-back for Arsenal, making him one of the few players in world football capable of playing anywhere across the backline.

That is remarkable, but the 24-year-old previously played as a midfielder as well during his time at Ajax in the Netherlands.

Arteta hasn’t used Timber in the middle of the park yet, but we won’t be surprised if he gets that opportunity one day. He’s definitely good enough to do a job there.

Arsenal Insider exclusively revealed that Timber will be offered a new contract soon. He completely deserves it!
