It’s now been 21 years since Arsenal won a Premier League title.

The Gunners are on a lengthy title drought at the moment, and that’s something Mikel Arteta is working incredibly hard to put right.

Arsenal are working hard in this summer transfer window to get the right players in to win the league next year.

Viktor Gyokeres is set to join Arsenal, while Eberechi Eze has also been linked, and these are the kinds of signings you need to push on to become champions.

Speaking on the Obi One Podcast, Jack Wilshere has been discussing his time in north London and Arsenal’s failure to win the league, and he reckons the Gunners would’ve won a title if it wasn’t for two transfer moves.

Jack Wilshere says Arsenal would’ve won the league if they kept Robin van Persie and Cesc Fabregas

Wilshere spoke about how the Arsenal team changed around him when he was at the club.

The former midfielder says that Arsenal would have won the league if they’d kept Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie and built around them rather than selling these players at the peak of their powers.

“You know, I always say this, Cesc left and we got Cazorla and Ozil, imagine we had them together, Van Persie left and then we got Sanchez. If we could’ve held onto them we probably could’ve challenged and probably won it in my opinion,” Wilshere said.

Arsenal’s potential XI with Robin van Persie and Cesc Fabregas

Wilshere reckons Arsenal would’ve won the Premier League had they kept Robin van Persie and Cesc Fabregas, and it has to be said he may have a point.

Arsenal weren’t a million miles away from challenging in the mid-2010s, finishing 3rd and 2nd on numerous occasions, and with Van Persie and Fabregas in the side, they perhaps could have gone all the way.

It has to be said, the team that could’ve been fielded at that time was mouth-watering.

Of course, the midfield here is lacking a bit of steel as Fabregas, Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla were hardly the strongest or most physical, but, they would’ve been able to play around almost any team.

Add in the incredible abilities of Alexis Sanchez and Robin van Persie in the attack and you have a frightening side here.
